How Television Affects The Mind: Review of Le Tube, a documentary

Le Tube is a documentary film. Journalist Peter Entell and actor Luc Mariot travel to three continents to uncover the history of television and its effects on the human brain. The focus of their research is to study the effect of television regardless of the content. This is an outstanding investigative movie for anyone seeking knowledge about television.

Geneva, Switzerland

The movie begins here with Mariot's younger daughter, Zoe, who is crying because Mariot turned off the Pokemon cartoon. Mariot is concerned because Zoe never blinks when she watches television. Researching the Pokemon cartoon on the Internet he comes across an article describing a December 1997 event where 700 children were hospitalized with eye problems and convulsions because of a Pokemon episode.

Tokyo, Japan

Mariot visits the hospital in Tokyo and the doctor there explains that 1 in 4,000 people are hypersensitive to light and are therefore "at risk" when they watch television. An unusually high rate of "flicker" or flashing lights will affect these people and produce symptoms similar to epileptic seizures. TV Tokyo, home of Pokemon, reveals to Mariot that because of public outrage it now uses an Animation Flicker Machine to monitor each episode.

Schenectady, New York

The movie then moves to the Research and Development section of General Electric. The technicians explain Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) and Electron Gun technologies that make television work. The television screen is made of Red, Green, and Blue (RGB) pixels that flicker at a high rate when bombarded with fast-moving electrons. Mariot asks the GE technicians why television is hypnotic and addictive. They have no answer.

Lunenburg, Massachusetts

In Lunenburg the film crew meets with Dr. Thomas Mulholland whose experiments with electroencephalograms (EEG) and alpha waves provide the first indications of physical reaction to television. Alpha waves are brain activity that increases as brain work decreases. Closing your eyes, relaxing, sleeping, not thinking, meditating all increase alpha waves while even looking around a familiar room lowers alpha waves. Dr. Mulholland has discovered that children watching television have very high alpha - in other words they have minimal brain activity.

Toronto, Canada

Then the crew visits Eric McLuhan at the University of Toronto where the McLuhan demonstrates in an experiment the difference between transmitted light and reflected light. Movie theaters reflect light on viewers while television creates and transmits its own light. In effect, with transmitted light McLuhan says, "you are the screen." The brain responds to the medium, not the content.

Finally, Mariot tracks down former researcher Herbert Krugman of the Advertising Research Foundation. Krugman's experiments on the effects of television led him to conclude that TV induces some type of "sleeping awake" activity. Why are people so mesmerized or hypnotized by the TV. Krugman used this power of TV to help the advertising community. Krugman says that with TV, "when you lose touch with the body and the brain will play." You're not asleep and not awake. It's midnight and you are staring at the TV and can't turn it off. You sit watching commercials blankly and unthinking. You don't turn it off.

"The television is the easiest, quickest, and cheapest way to distract yourself from how you already feel that's ever been invented," says one psychologist in the film.

A worker at a TV station says, she thinks, "TV is like a drug. . . Sure, just try taking it away from them."

The Tube is a well done film. It presents many compelling facts and questions about an activity that most people take for granted. Unfortunately, many questions still remain unanswered as some continue to question the benefit of staring at red, green and blue flickering light.

BEYOND TELEVISION: PSYCHOTRONIC WARFARE and the 'TECTONIC SHIFT' in MIND CONTROL

NOTE FROM JEFF: This article pertains to what I believe to be a very real scenario involving technologies held by many people to be only hypothetical or “science-fiction”. I’ve been reading about these “non-lethal weapons systems” and “psychotronic warfare” for many years, of which the “Sound of Silence” is only one example of probably thousands, but I now have reason to believe that they have become fully operational, from personal experience and what I see happening in the world. The technical information in this article I have seen before, from very credible researchers like Dr. Nick Begich; and the over-all paradigmatic rationale for its use has been succinctly expressed by Zbigniew Brzezinski, New World Order visionary and top security advisor to Obama (real name: Barry Soutero), who foresaw that EMR technologies based on the work of Nicola Tesla, for example, the HAARP array in Gakona, Alaska, could project ‘high power levels over certain regions of the earth. In this way, one could develop a system that would seriously impair the brain performance of very large populations in selected regions over an extended period.’ Why? Because, according to Brzezinski, ‘democracy is inimical to imperial mobilization.’ The people…all people…are the enemy. Such technologies could be wielded to create ‘a more controlled and directed society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite whose claim to political power would rest on allegedly superior scientific know how. Unhindered by the restraints of traditional liberal values, this elite would not hesitate to achieve its political ends by using the latest modern techniques for influencing public behavior and keeping society under close surveillance and control.’ The basic idea is that this entire network of electronic technologies can function as a huge pulsating weapons system designed to disrupt your brainwaves and turn you into a zombie; the techniques are actually a lot more subtle and scientifically-refined than this, but you get the picture. HD tv is the capstone on this diabolical pyramid of electronic necrophilia, and along with 3D, is capable of bringing their nightmare directly into your head! Any broadcast signal for radio or television has the potential to act as a “carrier wave” for subliminally encoded information and/or pulses of energy designed to affect the human mind in a negative way. HAARP was scheduled to become fully operational at maximum power in 2006; I feel that when HD tv broadcast became mandatory in the U.S. in February 2009, a threshold of mental suppression was crossed; it seems to me that since this time, over the past two years, that “America” has kind of gone to sleep, at least in terms of my connections there. Except on Facebook, of course, which is more active than ever. Even these technologies, still in the realms of “Flash Gordon” to many, are already “old-school” compared to what is on the think-tank CAD-CAM screens in the ‘war on independent thought’ being waged by the Wall Street and international banking cartel whose “assets” include not only the Pentagon, but also the Federal Reserve, the CIA, Hollywood, the U.S. presidency…and an extra-terrestrial “threat” from aliens who are less than benevolent. PART 1 Silent Sound Spread Spectrum (Subliminal Carrier Technology)

This is an extremely timely and important essay. It overviews a secret Pentagon psychotronics technology known as Silent Sound Spread Spectrum (SSSS) that has been fully operational since the early 1990s. I first found out about the use of this technology from Al Bielek in a 1992 video he made with Vladimir Terziski. This technology was used against battle-hardened Iraqi troops fortified in deep underground bunkers in Kuwait and Iraq in the first Gulf War in January of 1991.

The physical, emotional, and psychological effects of this technology were so severe that hundreds of thousands of Iraqi troops surrender en masse without firing even a single shot against US led coalition forces. The numbers reported in the news were staggering: 75,000 and then another 125,000 (or more) Iraqi troops would come out of their deep desert bunkers waving white flags and falling to their knees before approaching US troops and literally kiss their captor’s boots or hands if given the opportunity. Why would eight-year veterans of Middle Eastern warfare (with Iran 1980-1988) behave this way? Simple. They were subjected to a technology that was so extreme and incomprehensible that they were suddenly reduced to the level of compliant children and felt grateful to still be alive in the wake of their mind-wrenching experience. This technology is about to be used, albeit in a more subtle fashion, against American citizens in a highly classified and covert operation to mind control and manipulate the entire population into ‘compliance’ with our New World order overlords. The technology will utilize a combination of HAARP transmitters, GWEN towers, microwave cell phone towers, and the soon-to-be-mandatory High Definition Digital TV that will enter your home via: a) cable, b) satellite, c) HD TVs, or d) those oh-so-easy-to-obtain “digital converter boxes” that the government is so anxious to help you obtain and underwrite most of the cost on your behalf.

But why is the government so anxious to help American citizens experience a clearer and more highly defined television picture? Does that make sense to you? Since when is the government so concerned about the visual quality of our televised entertainment that congress would pass an undebated statutory proclamation which mandated that the HD conversion take place on Feb. 17, 2009 and then subsidize about 90% of the associated cost?

I’m only guessing, but if there are 200 million “regular” televisions in America to be converted into HD, then that $40 in government subsidy per TV × 200,000,000 = $8 billion. Why is the government so anxious to spend 8 billion dollars on her citizens to improve the clarity of a TV picture? Or is the recently touted “additional bandwidth” cover story that supposedly is to be gained with the HD technology the only and genuine reason for spending so much taxpayer dollars on HD conversion?

The second service that this author performs is to “out” two of our more deceptive CIA/Pentagon ‘assets’ masquerading under the rubric of natural health advocates. Their names are Rima Laibow and her husband, “former” Major General Albert Stubblebine. If your e-mail Inbox has been filling with warnings and articles in recent months about the coming Codex regulations and the “wonderful” job that Rima and her retired Army husband have been doing to try and stem the tide, then you know who I’m talking about.

Folks, is it time to wake up yet? Or should we just resume our slumber and wait for them to take us away in those spiffy Gunderson cattle cars that Phil Schneider warned us about in 1995 (you know, the ones with the built in shackles and manacles)?

THE SOUND OF SILENCE

The Antithesis of Freedom

The year was 1961, and John Kennedy was soon to become the 35th President. Shortly before Kennedy’s inauguration, President Dwight D. Eisenhower shocked the nation and the world with his televised farewell speech. The speech’s content was shocking because General Eisenhower was a very popular war hero, and American military might was second to none.

Eisenhower, a highly decorated five-star general, was the Supreme Commander of all allied forces during World War II. It was Eisenhower’s leadership during the Normandy invasion that ultimately freed Europe from the Nazi scourge.

Incredibly, in his farewell address, this great American hero did not warn the nation of the budding communist threat or the horrors of nuclear proliferation. No, not at all! Instead, this career military genius poignantly and soberly declared to this great nation:

“… We have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military security more than the net income of all United States corporations.

“This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence — economic, political, even spiritual — is felt in every city, every state house, every office of the federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to recognize its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.

“In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or our democratic processes.”

Here we have a career military officer, and sitting US President warning the nation in his final farewell speech, that something called “unwarranted influence by the military-industrial complex” poses an extremely dangerous threat to our Free Republic society. According to Eisenhower, this threat “exists and will persist.”

To President Eisenhower, in January of 1961, this evil was a much greater threat to America than Castro’s Cuba or Khrushchev’s Soviet Union. What exactly could have happened in the “military-industrialist” establishment that would have caused Eisenhower to issue such a strongly worded warning? Improved machine gun production? Nope. Battleship production? Nope. Nuclear submarines? Nope. Proliferation of nuclear warheads? A concern of course, but a concern that most Americans were fully aware of.

No, obviously what caused Eisenhower such deep concern had to be something much more pervasively shadowy, dark and secret. Some new, covert, technology had clearly emerged that had the very real potential to provide certain individuals with the “acquisition of unwarranted influence” that in turn would “endanger our liberties or our democratic processes” (i.e., our free and fair election process). In other words, it had the clear potential to circumvent the voice of the people and completely empower un-elected power mongers.

Eisenhower, I would submit, was warning America about something called the “Sound of Silence”. Eisenhower was an honest and patriotic American. Like Marine Corp General Smedley Butler, who decades earlier declared to Congress that “War is a Racket,” Ike knew that such absolute power and total covert control over the minds and hearts of individual citizens would corrupt society absolutely. He also knew and understood, as did the German philosopher Goethe: “No man is more hopelessly enslaved, than he who falsely believes that he is free.” Therefore, he issued his strong, concluding warning to America. Today, this author must do no less.

PART 2 Silent Sound Spread Spectrum (Subliminal Carrier Technology)

The Sound of Silence is a military-intelligence code word for certain psychotronic weapons of mass mind-control tested in the mid-1950s, perfected during the 70s, and used extensively by the “modern” US military in the early 90s, despite the opposition and warnings issued by men such as Dwight David Eisenhower.

This mind-altering covert weapon is based on something called subliminal carrier technology, or the Silent Sound Spread Spectrum (SSSS) (also nicknamed S-Quad or “Squad” in military jargon). It was developed for military use by Dr. Oliver Lowery of Norcross, Georgia, and is described in US Patent #5,159,703 — “Silent Subliminal Presentation System” for commercial use in 1992. The patent abstract reads:

“A silent communications system in which non-aural carriers, in the very low (ELF) or very high audio-frequency (VHF) range or in the adjacent ultrasonic frequency spectrum, are amplitude- or frequency-modulated with the desired intelligence and propagated acoustically or vibrationally, for inducement into the brain, typically through the use of loudspeakers, earphones, or piezoelectric transducers. The modulated carriers may be transmitted directly in real time or may be conveniently recorded and stored on mechanical, magnetic, or optical media for delayed or repeated transmission to the listener.”

In layman’s terms, this device, this “Sound of Silence” simply allows for the unwarranted implantation of specific thoughts, emotions, and even prescribed physical actions into unsuspecting human beings. In short, it has the very real ability to turn human beings into mere puppets in the hands of certain “controllers,” or puppet-masters.

Eisenhower knew full well what such a “weapon” could do in the hands of greedy, conspiring men and women scheming to control the planet. It could easily result in the takeover of American society without a single bullet being fired. This is what he was warning America about, this is the “combination” he feared above all others. Have the leaders of America ignored Ike’s warning?

Have conspiring and evil men and women utilized this diabolical technology on unsuspecting Americans and others outside of our borders? If so, will they continue to utilize the technology through the medium of television and radio? This exposé will attempt to answer these questions, and give the reader a clear picture of exactly who made the decisions to use the “Sound of Silence” in both war and peace.

On March 23, 1991, a news brief was released in the form of an ITV News Bureau Ltd (London) wire service bulletin entitled “High-Tech Psychological Warfare Arrives in the Middle East.” This was during the administration of George Bush Sr., during “Operation Desert Storm,” and describes in remarkable detail a US Psychological Operations (psy-ops) covert operation successfully deployed against Iraqi troops in Kuwait.

Saddam Hussein’s vaunted “Republican Guard” crack troops were promising Bush “the mother of all battles” with many thousands of dead coalition troops. On paper, it looked convincing. Hussein’s Republican Guard troops were battle-hardened veterans of the 10 year war with Iran, while coalition troops were un-blooded. The Iraqis had modern weaponry and were well trained in how to use it.

Something very strange happened, however. The “mother of all battles” ended before it began, as literally hundreds of thousands of Iraqi soldiers surrendered en masse without even firing a shot! Here is what the British press reported on the incident (while the American press was censored):

“… an unbelievable and highly classified psy-ops program utilizing ‘Silent Sound’ techniques was successfully deployed. The opportunity to use this method occurred when Saddam Hussein’s military command-and-control system was destroyed. The Iraqi troops were then forced to use commercial FM radio stations to carry encoded commands, which were broadcast on the 100 MHz frequency. The US psy-ops team set up its own portable FM transmitter, utilizing the same frequency, in the deserted city of Al Khafji. This US transmitter overpowered the local Iraqi station. Along with patriotic and religious music, psy-ops transmitted ‘vague, confusing and contradictory military orders and information.

“Subliminally, a much more powerful technology was at work, however. A sophisticated electronic system designed to ‘speak’ directly to the mind of the listener; to alter and entrain his brainwaves, to manipulate his brain’s electroencephalographic (EEG) patterns and thus artificially implant negative emotional states —- feelings of intense fear, anxiety, despair and hopelessness were created in the Iraqi troops. This incredibly effective subliminal system doesn’t just tell a person to feel an emotion, it makes them feel it; it implants that emotion in their minds.”

While utilizing such a “non-lethal” covert psy-ops weapon resulted in many lives being saved, both American, Coalition, as well as Iraqi, the question begs to be asked: how can Americans be assured that such a weapon is not being used on them by “Big Brother” on a daily basis?

Moreover, why was the real story behind the mass Iraqi surrenders censored so completely from the American people? Typically, secrecy of this nature is only employed when the subject is morally offensive, or when the powers that be wish to continue to deploy the subject without public scrutiny or oversight, or both. Clearly, if such a device employed covertly on Americans could result in “unwarranted influence” over a society, as Eisenhower warned, I submit the majority of Americans would be completely outraged and incensed, and rightfully so. Therefore, of course the technology would need to remain hidden away.

Officially, the Sound of Silence (S-quad) technology does not exist, just as the US Government officially denies the existence of UFOs and Area 51 (Groom Lake) in the Nevada desert. However, the physical realities cannot be ignored by the rational and logical mind.

For instance, during the first Gulf war, the man who most likely ordered the deployment of the Sound of Silence was Major General Albert (Bert) Stubblebine, who was the Commanding General of the US Army’s Intelligence School and Center, as well as the Army’s Electronic Research and Development Command (ERADCOM) as well as the Army’s Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM). In short, Albert Stubblebine was the Army’s liaison with the CIA and Naval Intelligence operatives (ONI), and as head of ERADCOM, he would of necessity have had complete working knowledge of the Sound of Silence weaponry, if indeed it truly exists.

He was the US Army’s top spy-boss, and of course, was privy to all its secrets. Now retired from active duty following a 32 year career, General Stubblebine has combined with his wife, Rima Laibow to form something called the Natural Solutions Foundation, supposedly dedicated to fighting all health freedom threats to individuals including Codex Alimentarius, vaccinations, and of course the FDA Gestapo.

On their website, www.healthfreedomusa.org one can read this about Albert N. Stubblebine: “Many of the innovations he developed helped the US to conduct the First Gulf War effectively and swiftly with a very low casualty rate.”

But of course, such “innovations” are never fully disclosed to Americans and are officially non-existent. With all due respect to General Stubblebine and shadowy power-brokers such as Frank Carlucci and Donald Rumsfeld, this author concurs whole-heartedly with General Eisenhower, and I declare that such posturing and secrecy with weapons of mind-control constitutes indeed an “acquisition of unwarranted power and influence” and has absolutely no place in a free and open society — no matter how many soldier’s lives it may save on the battlefield. The potential for massive misuse and abuse of such immense controlling power is simply too great.

Furthermore, with all due respect Mr. Stubblebine, are he and Rima Laibow using the cover of Natural Health activistism to hide their true agenda? Could this hidden agenda be the covert promotion and testing of Sound of Silence equipment and technology commercially throughout the world?

Immediately after “retiring” from the army, General Stubblebine took a position as the “VP for Intelligence Systems” with Braddock, Dunn, and McDonald (BDM), a major defense contractor owned by the shadowy Carlyle Group and ex-Defense Secretary Frank Carlucci of Iran-Contra infamy… Since the Sound of Silence machine technology was patented for “privatization” commercial applications by Dr. Lowery on October 27, 1992 , it clearly opened the door to private defense contractors such as BDM to develop their own “intelligence systems”. It would then make sense to employ General Stubblebine as a consultant. Of course, what would then stop BDM from quietly marketing and selling the Sound of Silence to large corporations tied to Wall Street? For example, imagine utilizing the Sound of Silence in a large Wal-Mart store, mixing the ELF waves with background music to subliminally brainwash dishonest shoppers not to engage in shoplifting? Such a device would save Sam Walton many millions of dollars in lost revenue every year. Suppose also that a young, black man from Illinois was given access to, and was able to utilize the S-quad Sound of Silence technology in his public speeches, radio and 30-minute television “infomercials” — all programmed and designed by “handlers” to illicit strong emotional responses from audience members who then are merely “hearing without listening.”

Moreover, what if televisions across the US and Canada all went 100% digital [to be mandatory in Feb. 2009] in their signals (in order to successfully link to GWEN towers) which would allow the unrestricted use of the Sound of Silence frequencies in a complete and massive control of the nation’s mind and consciousness? I am telling you that is exactly what is happening. President Eisenhower was absolutely correct, and his worst fears were indeed well founded!

The military-industrialist complex has quietly completed the takeover of the nation’s consciousness, and thus its very soul.

Again, the absolute secrecy surrounding the development and deployment of the electromagnetic mind-altering technology of the Sound of Silence in a very real way reflects the tremendous power that is inherent in it. This is why Eisenhower knew that he had to warn the nation about it back in 1961. To put it bluntly, whoever controls this technology literally has the power to control the minds of men — all men and women everywhere.

Of course, whoever controls the minds of all humans, controls the wealth and destiny of planet Earth. Furthermore, Stubblebine, as commander of Army Intelligence would likely follow the prescribed manual of all covert ops, such as is found in a declassified US manual for the planned subversion and coup of the government of Nicaragua. The manual instructs the CIA “guerilla forces” to engage in different “false front” organizations designed to win the respect, trust, and influence of the enemy. Once complete trust and confidence is achieved by means of the activities of the “false front,” then the destruction of the enemy by means of misdirection and disinformation tactics can more easily be executed.

I would submit there is no better “false front” to infiltrate in America than Natural Health proponents, for they are typically healthier, better informed, and more dedicated to preserving individual freedoms and fighting tyranny than other Americans. Thus, there could be no better “false front” to establish, and there is clearly no more potentially vicious wolf hiding in sheep’s clothing than the man who knows more about the Sound of Silence secret deployment than any other human…

There is ample evidence that certain elitists in America and Israel plan to definitely extend the capacity of this technology to encompass all people on every continent. A key to this is the HAARP project where ELF and VHF frequencies can indeed be beamed off of the Earth’s ionosphere to various GWEN towers world-wide.

Of course, the US Government officially denies all of this, telling the talking heads of the controlled news media that the GWEN towers are merely private cell-phone towers with no ulterior agenda, and therefore anybody who thinks otherwise is a lunatic-fringe conspiracy nut.

The evidence to the contrary, however is clear and unequivocal. Dr Michael Persinger is a professor of psychology and neuroscience at Laurentian University, Ontario, Canada. Concerning this subject, Dr Persinger writes:

“Temporal lobe stimulation can evoke the feeling of a presence, disorientation, and perceptual irregularities. It can activate images stored in the subject’s memory, including nightmares and monsters that are normally suppressed. Contemporary neuroscience suggests the existence of fundamental algorithms by which all sensory transduction is translated into an intrinsic, brain-specific code. Direct stimulation of these codes within the human temporal or limbic cortices by applied electromagnetic patterns may require energy levels which are within the range of both geomagnetic activity and contemporary communication networks. A process which is coupled to the narrow band of brain temperature could allow all normal human brains to be affected by a sub-harmonic whose frequency range at about 10 Hz would only vary by 0.1 Hz.”

Dr Persinger concludes the article by writing:

“Within the last two decades a potential has emerged which was improbable, but which is now feasible. This potential is the technical capability to influence directly the major portion of the approximately 6.5 billion brains of the human species, without mediation through classical sensory modalities, by generating neural information within a physical medium within which all members of the species are immersed. “The historical emergence of such possibilities, which have ranged from gunpowder to atomic fission, have resulted in major changes in the social evolution that occurred inordinately quickly after the implementation. Reduction of the risk of the inappropriate application of these technologies requires the continued and open discussion of their realistic feasibility and implications within the scientific and public domain.”

I had the concept and spent a couple of years raising the money. Swiss TV and French TV (ARTE) co-produced the film, as a public service, saying "we have a responsibility to our public if any of this is true". One clue leads to another – from his home in Europe to the studios of Japan and the laboratories of America. His goal : to penetrate into the very heart of the TV industry. What haven’t we been told? When I was doing research for my regainyourbrain web-site back in 2004 I read about a unique documentary which concerned the inner workings of the technology of television. I instantly realized the significance of such a film, even simply the fact that someone had been able to make it! I read excellent reviews of it, but a copy was nowhere to be found. A few years later, in 2008, in the process of expanding our archive of relevant docos, I decided to make a concerted effort to get this film, and finally got in touch with Peter Entell, an American-born film-maker now residing in Switzerland. He had been commissioned by Swiss television to make this film, which they then broadcast nation-wide. I was amazed and impressed. But this was in 2003, and since then, the film had been relegated to a shelf and was not even commercially available. Peter sent us the film; our interest inspired him to take up the project again, and now we’re able to present to you, free of charge, Entell’s 2009 re-edit of “The Tube.” His new version is a little “scarier”, to use his term, which is appropriate when you understand the reality of television.

“Television”, taken as a whole system, represents a vast convergence of technologies, techniques and cross-correlated paradigms. Entell’s film examines the foundation of television’s primary effects, which are at the physiological level. It’s not that the “content” doesn’t matter; this is the domain of programming and psychological warfare. Traditionally, and even today, most people think of television as “entertainment” which may also convey some “important” stuff here and there like “news”, “sport”, “educational programming” and, of course, the weather (which is likely to be the least fictional content). From its inception just after World War 2, however, military psy-strategists proclaimed tv to be “the atomic bomb of the mind” and recognized its power as a technology of indoctrination, distraction, and disinformation.

Wall Street and the advertsing milieu under-written by Edward Bernays had already been assimilated by Goebbels in Nazi Germany, and the resultant “next level” was imported back into the USA with Operation Paperclip, which brought in thousands of Nazi scientists, mostly psychiatrists, who took on new identities in positions of research and development. With the backing of Wall Street and the international banking cartel who had already executed a silent “coup d’etat” against the United States with the Glass-Owen Act of 1913 that established the Federal Reserve and central banking, Nazi Germany had almost succeeded in their goal of total world domination. And their most powerful weapon was what they called the “weltanschauungskrieg”, or “world-view warfare” which utilized state-of-the-art media technologies and “psychological techniques” to disempower and enslave their own people, as well as “the enemy”, which were in reality one and the same. The Nazis massively utilized radio as an instrument of coercion, and Goebbels pioneered the use of cinema as a propaganda tool, although with questionable success; as a show of superior German technology, the Nazis achieved the world’s first global television transmission with the 1939 Berlin Olympic games.

The powers that be were acutely aware of what television was and how it worked; huge “defense contracting” corporations like General Electric, who wsa simultaneously building nuclear reactors, began to supply televisions to millions of households nation-wide; Wall Street had an unprecedented marketing tool, Hollywood had an unbelievably powerful vehicle of “entertainment”, and the Pentagon and CIA had an astronomically subversive technology of mind-control for conducting “psychological warfare.”

First on their agenda was the “manufacture of consent” for atomic weapons and the “Cold War.” Dwight Eisenhour had warned of “the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex” and “The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power…” and his successor John F. Kennedy was keenly aware of the “secret government” and their adoption of “psychological warfare” techniques. Historically it is important to recognize the conjunction here of former Nazi scientists, the newly-created CIA (headed at this time by Allen Dulles, fired by JFK for the Bay of Pigs disaster, subsequently heading the Warren Commission, and who recruited former Nazi SS officer Reinhard Gehlen), and the advent of television.

Regardless of the content of programming, however, television affects us at the fundamental physiological level in terms of how the image is created and how our brains process these signals. It doesn’t matter “what’s on tv”, whether it be a gory war fest, Walt Disney’s story hour, or Sea Shepherd “battling” evil Japanese whalers (running in circles these days!)…no matter what show you’re watching, your brain is responding to the physiological effects of television in the same way.

And THIS is the biggest danger therein. As long as it’s ON, the effects are there, possibly even if you’re not even watching it!

Entell’s film is a much-needed introduction to a fully weaponized technology affecting almost everyone, even moreso because it’s thought of as “entertainment.” Nothing could be further from the truth, and this film proves the point, by ending up with an interview with Herbert Krugman, a former “brain-washing” expert from the Korean war who explains that, indeed, television was developed as a technology of hypnosis.

There’s a lot more that needs to be discussed, including what are believed to be fully-operational “non-lethal weapons” systems based on Tesla technologies which are able to fulfil Brzezinski’s vision of “a more controlled and directed society”, which extend far beyond the scope of television alone.

And ironically, you are reading this now and may watch “The Tube” on a computer monitor which relies on the very same image-creation processes as television. The biggest message we may get from “The Tube” is to use the “off” switch more often than the “on” switch. For now, enjoy…and be disturbed by…Entell’s brilliant film.

THE GENESIS OF INFOTOXIN*

The myriad and improbable diversity of water-based life has been constantly evolving and experimenting with new forms of biological expression for at least two billion years on our planet the Earth. Mankind, homo sapiens, "man,the wise", came to be only a few million years ago, and has always existed as one integral but miniscule element within the larger nurturing context of the envelope of inter-connecting ecosystems comprising the planetary biosphere: our natural environment.

Throughout our evolution we have experienced the mystery of the unknown, always pressing against the limits of our perception and knowledge in an attempt to see beyond the horizons of space and time; to navigate more effectively the complexities of life as a land-based primate; to increase the resolution of our collective "big picture", our species weltanschauung. Our facilities of symbolic communication, or language, and shared model-building have been extremely important tools in helping us to be more biologically competent, more flexible and adaptive, and have lain the foundation for our ability to experience anything resembling a "consensus reality."

In recent history, with the advent of external technologies of writing, recording, and electronic signal processing and transmission, we have undergone profound transformative accelerations in our cultural processes, scientific methods, technological innovations, and global industrialization. We have experienced an "information revolution", an unimaginable proliferation of diverse forms of knowledge, creativity, and the exchange of messages and images. This matrix of amplified mass-communication, or (m.c.)2, has expanded exponentially in complexity so that we now experience a new environment, or context, of existence within the larger and more ancient living planetary biosphere. This new shared context is known as our information environment.

The information environment is a complex holistic system of both the hardware or media, and the software, or content, of communication (what astronomer Carl Sagan calls our "extrasomatic cultural information.") We ourselves are embedded within this context; we are the mind/brain of the information environment. We have constructed a sort of typographic/electronic cocoon around ourselves; the sum total of our languages and codes; the semiotic and psychological processes by means of which these symbols and images are shared and understood; and the complex synergic…and little understood…inter-relationships between these dimensions.

You, the reader, and I, the writer, are at this moment using the wonders of symbolic language and modern information technology to share meaningful and relevant ideas across time and space. Indeed, the purpose and focus of this message concerns nothing less than our role in the long-term health of life as we know it here on Earth.

The original evolutionary driving force behind our urge to communicate more effectively is the need to inform and assist fellow beings and to facilitate and coordinate cooperative actions which could not be accomplished by individuals acting alone. The adaptive gains of high-quality communication in homo sapiens are self-evident.

Joseph Wood Krutch says that "man is one of those animals which is in danger from its too successul participation in the struggle for existence…from the standpoint of nature as a whole, he is both a threat to every other living thing, and therefore, a threat to himself also…he has become the tyrant of the Earth, the waster of its resources, the creator of the most prodigious imbalance in the natural order which has ever existed…" Our wisdom has not kept pace with our so-called "intelligence." The human enterprise is indisputably wreaking havoc, committing irreversible extinctions, pollutions and degradations on our fellow beings and natural environment.

Before the advent of modern mass-communication, or (m.c.)2, our information environment essentially was our natural environment. We had books, but we lived on the land, climbed the mountains, farmed the valleys, fished in the rivers, took our children for hikes and told them stories, looked to the heavens for inspiration, felt the warmth of the sun, the pull of the moon, the splendor of the Milky Way. Now we watch television.

The ubiquity and pervasiveness of our information environment has tremendously influenced each of us, for better or worse. Our lives and minds have been broadened and enriched; we have learned of things long ago and far away that we could never experience directly. We have been informed, educated and inspired. We have also been exposed to the virulence of politics and the mucus of celebrity. Does seeing Dan Quayle or O.J. Simpson really make a difference in our lives? We know what car to drive, what beer to swill; we know how to look stylish, how to act cool. We think we are tuned into what is happening. We are media-literate, and therefore hip.

The map, however, is not the territory; and cartographers sometimes make mistakes, especially when exploring uncharted regions. The information environment is an actual, or real system of media, images, and symbols, often conveying understandable meaning; but, unlike our natural environment, our information environment is of human creation: a second-order reality. Our natural environment has been functioning in intelligent harmony far longer than has man; the information environment is artificial and unalive. Moreover, the information environment may convey codifications of things which really exist, but these images are only simulations of the real world; it is in fact a media-based virtual reality.

At all levels of existence and manifestation, from the atomic/molecular to the cellular/organismic to the planetary/galactic, the communication and exchange of energy/information is a fundamental process of physical reality. The universe is patterns of information on various levels, probability aggregates vibrating in mathematical harmony, the "music of the spheres." Living organisms are functions of the information contained within the genetic codes which specify their development and control their health and growth. The flow and balance of this cosmic dance is constant, dynamic, homeostatic and self-regulating.

When the natural harmony of energy/information is disrupted in a living organism or system, a state or condition of unhealth, or disease, occurs. As our information environment has expanded, as more and more people are sending more and more messages for increasingly less life-oriented purposes, human and planetary health has declined.

Are we really communicating? Do limits exist as to how much information we can handle? And how much of the information is truly useful, meaningful or relevant? Is it possible for information to become unhealthful or harmful? Are we being inundated with mega-bytes of information which is of no possible value, that we would be better off not knowing or experiencing? Is the navigational function of our information environment being subverted by unconscious power ploys, naked ape control games, and id-driven marketing imperatives? The answer seems to be in the affirmative.

In biochemistry a toxin is a substance which impedes the proper function or degrades the health of an organism or living system: a poison. Many of the hundreds of thousand of chemicals utilized in medicine and industry are toxic to some degree. Moreover, many substances which at certain levels of concentration are useful or essential for health may become toxic at higher levels of concentration.

Infotoxin is a form of informaion disorder at the level of human mass-communication; cancer is an information disorder at the cellular/genetic level in the human body; a virus becomes an information disorder when its nucleic acids subvert the proper, healthy functions of its host organism’s genetic code.

The parallels are striking. In many ways the human enterprise has become so widespread and so malignantly destructive to itself and to other life-forms that it could be termed the homo sapiens macro virus, or HSMV.

Has our information environment become infected with some kind of alien consumer virus? Is Gaia herself sending invisible invaders like something out of Koyaanisqatsi of The Andromeda Strain to assist the naked ape in thinning himself out? Or are we generating the virus-effect ourselves…"internally arising metabiological and sociometabiological pathogenic influences", in the words of biologist Jonas Salk…through the summation of non-health oriented messages, images and information? Can we somehow seize the reins of this amplifying feedback loop and redirect the impulse-momentum being created by existing tendencies in (m.c.)2 towards more holistic, cooperative and life-sustaining ways of living? This may well be the question of the millenium; from an extraterrestrial perspective, a true measure of the overall intelligence of a sentient species may be the quality and coherence of its highest orders of communication and information transfer,

Interestingly, the Greek root of toxin is "toxon" which means a "bow and arrow." Etymologically, a toxin is both poison and weapon; this reflects both the alpha, or active/intentional, and beta, or unintended/systemic, dimensions of infotoxin.

Infotoxin is not a label or category for specific artifacts of (m.c.)2 but is both an attitude or orientation towards the use of these systems for purposes which run counter to the positive evolutionary forces which led us to develop symbolic communication, as well as a state or condition of disease in the information environment. Censors in totalitarian regimes would label "dangerous" or "disturbing" or "subversive" "left-wing" facts or ideas as "infotoxin.; au contraire, to value, protect, implement and enhance total freedom and quality of communication and expression is paramount in our salient and strategic agenda as passengers/crew of Spaceship Earth.

The perception of truth and the experience of meaning are of course relative across the expanses of cultural diversity and individual uniqueness. Our ability to communicate is based on a common ground of sharing and agreement; at this critical point in our role as the dominant species of Earth we need desperately to analyze and reevaluate the fundamental, implicit and unconscious values and beliefs which are driving present trends in the control and utilization of mass-communication; we must strive for an enhanced understanding of the complex inter-relationships between ourselves, our information environment, and the long-term health and well-being of all the life-forms who share our planet.

For the purposes at hand, information is defined as the meaning or understandable content of communication. Communication is generally construed to convey useful, valid, or true information. Although we may use a variety of external hardware/technologies, in the words of Dr. John C. Lilly, "communication is between minds." Because of the centralized nature of mass-communication we have a relatively small number of minds speaking to a vastly larger number of minds who function more or less as passive receivers of messages and images. The fundamental questions to ask about assimilating any artifact of (m.c.)2 are "Why is someone taking the trouble to send this particular message?" and "What difference will this message (artifact, image, program) make in how I think or live?"

Historically our motivations for communication were adaptive and oriented towards helping and educating each other. The inner wisdom of this is that "two heads are better than one." Recently, with the advent of (m.c.)2 , the primary motivations for communication have shifted to reflect the values and requirements of a fully-developed capitalistic economy, a sort of high-tech predator-prey relationship; the majority of messages in our information environment are messages of manipulation of persuasion, overt or disguised, designed to sell a product, service, or belief and to voice the needs of the largest corporate and bureaucratic entities who control the media. Corporations consist of people; and nobody is forcing us to watch television or to buy their products. It’s a free world, right? Well, not exactly…

The structure and dynamics of infotoxin are complex, and are inextricably interwoven with the very nature of the human brain/mind and planetary ecology; but several trends or tendencies in (m.c.)2 can be identified which interact to create a field effect of negative synergisms in our information environment. These include

1. the unreality industry/amusing ourselves to death/the metastasis of entertainment
2. the mind management scenario (including negative propaganda, misinformation, psychological warfare, public relations)
3. commercialization of culture/communication (including advertising, privatization of the public domain)
4. centralization of media ownership/control
5. the primacy of style over substance/triumph of technique
6. separation from/replacement of nature; health effects from content/media
7. information over-load/tele-shock/proliferation of mediocrity/extinction of independent thought
8. unknown/unpredictable/unknowable negative synergisms

In a series of future articles I plan to share an interdisciplinary exposition and synthesis of the work of several leading minds in the fields of ecology, linguistics, psychology, media analysis and communications theory. The study of the pollution of the information environment could properly be called information toxicology; the larger endeavor this relates to could be called biomedical noo-ecology (pronounced "NO-oh-ecology"): the science of healing and understanding the living and mental systems of man and the Earth and their complex and dynamic inter-relationships (including how our mind/brains work, how and why we create and are susceptible to infotoxin, how we can improve our cognitional immune response, more fully actualize our potential as spiritual beings, and take more responsibility in our role as guardians of the the Earth). Such an endeavor is of urgent necessity here on the brink of…the unknown!

In the immediate present ("im-media-te" could mean that you don’t know what’s on TV!) the major constructive differences that make a difference are going to be made by critically-thinking minds making conscious decisions to be fully responsible for what enters their heads, to seek out and to share the most relevant and highest quality knowledge and information, to boldy create a new harmonious and synergic paradigm of thinking and relating which reflects a horizon of identity expanded to include all living beings, and most importantly, actually to implement, to live these ideas.

One of the most powerful images of modern times is that of the Earth rising over the moon as photographed by Apollo astronauts. This surreal vision of cosmic beauty…from a perspective never before attained by homo sapiens…was experienced by millions of people through the wonders of modern mass-communication. Let us hold this image in our minds, a symbol of the singular awesomeness of life on Earth and the unknowable immensity of the cosmic context we live within. We are not alone. In the words of R. Buckminster Fuller, "On Spaceship Earth there are no passengers: everyone is crew."

Finally, people started realizing it was him, so he got on stage and started doing this really freaky dance with some kinds of fabric things twirling around. He didn’t sing or play guitar, just danced. If I remember correctly, he suddenly disappeared into thin air and the fabric dropped to the stage floor. And in the third dream, he was just smiling and he had a guitar on which he showed me something. In none of the dreams did he ever speak a word.

These notes concern an experimental piece of music which was done on the austral winter solstice of 2002. It was inspired by the film Judgment at Nuremberg, a 1964 courtroom drama re-enacting the trial of four Nazi judges, as well as by a dream I had in which a smiling Jimi Hendrix was showing me some stuff on guitar! The dialogue in this piece is from former Minister of Justice for the Third Reich Ernst Janning, played by Burt Lancaster. In the middle of his defense he had enough and decided to give the whole truth on why they fell for Hitler and why even men of honor, who weren’t depraved perverts, sat in silence or participated in the most heinous spree of brutality the world had ever witnessed. “If we didn’t know, it was because we didn’t want to know.” This is a psycho-therapeutic exorcism of denial…and a message to us all here and now: we ALL are responsible for what is going down in the world…because we all KNOW what is going down!

This piece consists of Hendrix’s “The Star-spangled Banner” running normally, along with a “stretched” or slowed-down version of itself; when it reaches the end of the song, it reverses and runs backward from end to beginning, also accompanied by a stretched version; the dialogue is taken directly from the video; in the background is my voice with effects, repeating the mantra “freedom and democracy…greedom and dumbocracy…” And towards the end is my voice sounding like it’s on a loudspeaker reciting the lyrics to “The Scar-Strangled Banter”, a trans-national anathema!

We will go forward. Forward is the great password. History tells how well we succeeded. We succeeded beyond our wildest dreams. The very elements of hate and power about Hitler that mesmerized Germany mesmerized the world. We found ourselves with some powerful allies. Things that had been denied to us as a democracy were open to us now. The world said “Go ahead, take it…take it. Take Sudanland, take the Rhineland, rematerize it, take all of Austria, TAKE IT!” And then one day we looked around and found that we were in an even more terrible danger. The ritual began here in this courtroom swept over the land like a raging, roaring disease. What was going to be a passing phase had become the way of life. Your honor, I was content to sit silent during this trial. I was content to tend my roses. I was even content to let counsel try to save my name. Until I realized that in order to save it he would have to raise the spectre again. You have seen him do it. He has done it here in this courtroom. He has suggested that the Third Reich worked for the benefit of people; he has suggested that we sterilized men for the welfare of the country; he has suggested that the old Jew did sleep with the sixteen year old girl after all. Once more it is being done for the love of country….

Looking for the oil? NOAA says it's mostly gone

WASHINGTON – With a startling report that some researchers call more spin than science, the government said Wednesday that the mess made by the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is mostly gone already.

Out of sight, though, doesn't mean out of danger, nor is the Gulf now clean. The harmful effects of the summer of the spill can continue on for years even with oil at the microscopic level, a top federal scientist warned.

U.S. officials announced that nearly 70 percent of the spilled oil dissolved naturally, or was burned, skimmed, dispersed or captured, with almost nothing left to see — at least on top of the water. That declaration came on the same day they trumpeted success in plugging up the leaking well with drilling mud,

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Geological Survey announced in the five-page report that only 52.7 million gallons of oil are left in the Gulf. That is about 31 percent of the 172 million gallons that spewed into the water from the broken BP well.

What's left in the water is still almost five times the amount spilled by the Exxon Valdez in 1989.

Nevertheless, Wednesday was a day of cautious celebration by a White House that has had little to cheer about from the oil spill.

"I think it is fairly safe to say ... that many of the doomsday scenarios that we talked about and repeated a lot have not and will not come to fruition," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said at a briefing with NOAA's top scientist.

Much of the reasoning behind the disappearing oil has to do with the natural resilience of the Gulf, which is teeming with microbes that eat oil. On top of that is the natural tendency of oil in seawater to evaporate and dissolve to half its volume in about a week — something even critics acknowledge.

The federal calculations are based on direct measurements for only 18 million gallons of the oil spilled — the stuff burned and skimmed. The other numbers are "educated scientific guesses," said NOAA emergency response senior scientist Bill Lehr, an author of the report. That is because it is impossible to measure oil that is dispersed, he said.

That's what worries some outside scientists.

"This is a shaky report. The more I read it, the less satisfied I am with the thoroughness of the presentation," Florida State University oceanography professor Ian MacDonald told The Associated Press. "There are sweeping assumptions here."

NOAA chief Jane Lubchenco acknowledged the numbers could be off by as much as 10 percent. One of the scientists who peer-reviewed the work and is mentioned in the report, Ed Overton of Louisiana State University, said he wasn't comfortable with NOAA's putting precise percentages of how much oil is left in the Gulf. What would be more accurate would be a much broader range of, say, 40 million to 60 million gallons, he said.

Still, Overton thought the report was mostly good work. He said the Gulf itself deserves much of the credit, describing the body of water in two words: "incredibly resilient."

The White House claimed only 26 percent of the oil remained in the Gulf, but that was based on a 206-million-gallon figure for the spill that included oil that spewed from the pipe but was captured by BP and never got into the Gulf. Using the 172 million gallons that got into the Gulf, 31 percent of the oil remains.

So what happened to the oil?

Thank nature more than the federal government. Burning, skimming and chemically dispersing the spill got rid of 35 million gallons of oil, while natural processes of dispersion, evaporation and dissolving got rid of 84 million gallons, according to the report.

"Mother Nature is assisting here considerably," Lubchenco said. She cautioned that the oil that's left can harm wildlife for years or even decades to come, saying: "Diluted and out of sight doesn't necessarily mean benign."

Still, outside scientists said this was a just too-simple explanation for a complex oil that has confounded federal scientists at every turn.

"This is just way too neat," said Larry McKinney, director of the Texas A&M University research center on the Gulf of Mexico. "How can you even do this at this point? There's a lot of oil still floating out there."

McKinney said he most worried that this overly optimistic assessment would cost the government — and save BP — billions of dollars in the damage assessment process. McKinney, who has served as a state of Texas trustee in the process, said, "BP attorneys are placing this in plastic and putting this in frames."

White House energy adviser Carol Browner said, "We are going to continue to ensure BP is held accountable for damage they did."

MacDonald said the core of the idea here — that oil in water essentially has about a half-life of a week — makes sense, but what happened from there doesn't.

"There's some science here, but mostly, it's spin," he said. "And it breaks my heart to see them do it."

MacDonald pointed out that NOAA spent weeks sticking with its claim the BP well was spewing only 210,000 gallons a day. Now, after several revisions, the federal government said it really was 2.2 million gallons a day. So he has a hard time believing NOAA this time, he said.

When Lubchenco was asked about that at the Washington news conference, Gibbs stepped in to defend the agency's credibility. Gibbs and Lubchenco said NOAA provided the best information at the time and updated estimates when it had better data and tools.

"Is there uncertainty to this? Of course there is," said NOAA's Lehr. But he said there was no political interference.

That question got raised because of the coordination of the media rollout of the report. Browner was on all four morning TV shows saying "the vast majority of oil is gone," and the report was leaked to The New York Times. The version of the report sent to Congress was created by a former campaign spokesman for President Barack Obama who is now the Commerce Department's public affairs chief.

The scientific report, which has four pages of text followed by one page of credits, is small compared to other similar reports. Initially, NOAA said there was a fuller, 200-page report, but then retracted that. There is a second report that is 10 pages. The initial report cites no scientific references — those, Lehr said, are in his head.

Beneath the polished images of manufactured "reality," behind the insidious faces of the glitz-glam celebrity-icons, within the non-stop facade of mindless entertainment, we sense a storm brewing, an impending vortex of psychological upheaval, a mental maelstrom of unprecedented magnitude. Something's got to give. We each feel the coming cataclysm in the depths of our being because each one of us is a living, breathing being. What we are sensing is an inner battle, the struggle for the survival of life as we know it, against the forces of entropy, inertia, and extinction. That this battle is not so much in the external world as it is taking place within each of our minds makes the situation less abstract and closer to home. A lot is at stake here on the brink of the unknown, and every cell in our bodies is pulsing with uncertainty. Literally, we are standing at the edge of history.

Yet few of us have much of a sense of urgency as we go about the ordinary routines of our day-to-day lives; but it is literally the summation of these day-to-day acts over the expanse of hundreds of millions of people that is generating the profoundly brutal ecological consequences which are the legacy of existing generations. Indeed, a sense of urgency is difficult to maintain in the wake of seven hours a day of televised mind-clot; even when you catch a harsh glimpse of a denuded rain forest, a beached whale, an oil-covered bird, a blackened middle-eastern sky, a glowing waste dump, Aussie melanoma, or a starving child, within seconds your mind is emblazoned with rapid-fire sequences of a new car high on a desert plateau, animated tooth-paste and toilet-bowl cleaner, affluent-looking yuppies playing volleyball on a beach drinking caramel-colored sugar water, a "public service" announcement from an oil company on how they are doing magnificent super-human things to preserve biodiversity.

We are each a part of Mother Nature, and she is not happy at all. "Whatever befalls the Earth, befalls the sons of the Earth. The Earth does not belong to man; man belongs to Earth. All things are interconnected like the blood which unites one family. All things are inter-connected... Man did not weave the web of life; he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself." All around the world her myriad species of florae and faunae, her mountains, plains, forests, oceans, atmosphere, and ecosystems are suffering immense degradation at the hands of only one of her children: homo sapiens, "man, the wise." How is it that we have gotten so far out of balance? If we're really so wise, why is our stupidity so incredibly salient?

Mankind is unique among the kingdoms of terrestrial life-forms (but in many ways not quite as unique as we like to think!) in that, because of the expanded neurocomputational capacity of our brains, we have been able to create a wide spectrum of tools, or external hardware, as well as very flexible and adaptable systems of communications technology, or symbolic language. Our ability to perceive, model, and communicate about our world has enabled us to modify and control many dimensions of our physical environment; and the evolution of writing, printing, electronic communication, and the digital computer, as hand-maidens to the scientific and industrial revolutions, have accelerated our cultural evolution and enabled us to make giant leaps towards complete dominion of the Earth and her inhabitants. The reason. and the irony is that our space-age machines and futuristic technologies are being operated by beings... naked apes .who have been running on the same "wired-in" instinctual behavioral programs for the last 100,000. Old habits die hard, and us with them!

We have become masters of information-processing and model-building. High quality information and clarity, meaning, and relevance in communication have always been the primary tools we use to navigate our lives, individually and collectively. What we learn, what we are taught, what we come to hold as true, what we see, experience, and remember the knowledge we possess and have access to... form the substrate from which we make every choice, every decision, at every level and at every instant of our lives. And out entire human socio-cultural "reality" is created by the sum total of these choices, decisions, and actions/inactions. Our "reality" is a very dynamic and complex matrix of interacting processes; and we have enormous access to an incredible array of educational tools and an almost infinite reservoir of assorted information. But most of us here in the western world are chronically exposed to and influenced by the same limited subset of the totality of available knowledge and information: that delivered to us by the vehicles of global mass-communication.

Abuse of mass-communication and the concentration of its control, coupled with the persuasiveness and ubiquity of its technologies, messages, and implicit value structures, operates in conjunction with unconscious, instinctive processes within the human mind to generate an overall psychological condition of unreality, denial, and paralysis. This syndrome prevents us from facing honestly and directly the profound complexities of life today and from implementing and acting on the best and most valid knowledge we possess, and compromises our own mental and physical health as well as exacerbating the already-critical ecological problems in every corner of the globe.

When communication breaks down, meaning fails, and quality disappears; when public discourse is reduced to trivial banter-bites and dogmatic recitation ; when 70% of the news is fabricated by public relations firms ; when the average American sees approximately 21,000 commercials a year on TV ; when malignancy and violence are continuously shoved down our throats...because it sells!...we are living in the Age of Infotoxin!

This is an excerpt from “The Ultimate Technology”, a chart/mandala and text which was published in Global Eyes 2002, a Melbourne-based electronic music calendar. Here is my first use of the expression “regain your brain.”
“Our brains are actually computers in the true sense..."computare", its Latin root, means "to think or reflect upon." Those number-crunching electronic devices that we call computers actually aren’t! Also, the word "cybernetic" comes from the Greek word "kybernetes", meaning the pilot or navigator of a ship; cybernetics is the science of how biological or electronic systems are capable of guiding themselves...self-navigation. Therefore, we actually are cybernetic computers in the truest etymological sense. We are thinking, reflecting, and self-navigating living bio-technologies. It’s kind of science-fiction sounding…but true nevertheless.
And the fun has just begun! Supposedly we only use about 10% of our brain capacity; and a significant portion of that works to filter out the vast majority of inputs we receive from the cosmos. This means we are missing out on a wide spectrum of possible "realities" which are within and around us all the time. So how do we go about accessing the unseen universe?
The first step is to regain your brain from external sources of "authority" and control which use a host of mass-media to persuade us to see things their way. Turn off your tv and turn on your "global eyes." By realizing that it’s YOUR brain to use for your own purposes, you have empowered yourself with the ability to focus, to upgrade, and to reorganize your cognitional software. YOU are controlling transmission.
The second step is to recognize that you are actively creating and navigating your life by means of continuous decision-making at many levels, conscious and unconscious. Decision-making is a form of self-metaprogramming, or the ability to be fully in control of your inner and outer biotechnologies.
Now you have established a reference frame for exploring inner space. In the holographic universe every person is a center. And since we use our brains/minds in everything we do, inner space is the gateway to the entire omniverse. In a sense, our minds ARE the cosmos.”
